Updated PS3 Kiosks in Target.. Sortof..

November 9th, 2006 Kaz 2 comments

We do, indeed, have a PS3 system in for demo purposes, and have since Monday. However, it’s not working. When we try to go into any of the demos preloaded onto the hard drive, the system freezes on a black screen and the 4th player led blinks rapidly on the controller. No clue what that’s all about? The rep is supposed to be in on Monday to fix it, we’ll see.

The store now actually has it’s PS3 in the display case, hooked up.. resting.. Sadly, for some reason, it’s not playable. I got three responses from my co-workers; we have no demo disc, the rep has to hook it up, the hard drive isn’t working. No clue which one is actually the case, when I find out, I’ll update this post again.

Store #154 in Colorado Springs, CO, has it’s PS3 kiosk setup in the aisle.. however.. there’s no system connected yet!

Here’s two pics showing what to expect:

PS3 Kiosk Target 1PS3 Kiosk Target 2

Not all that thrilling, but it does at least have a larger screen than previous kiosks. The store is supposed to receive it’s PS3 systems on Monday, and thus, one will be placed in the kiosk at that time.

Best Buy and Wii..

November 3rd, 2006 Kaz Comments off

From an update over at Kotaku

Only a few Best Buys will be opening early, as you posted earlier in the week. The rest will be opening an hour early at 9AM. We are encouraged to keep our lights on all night so that customers who line up outside will not be in the dark. We’ll be handing out tickets to the line about an hour before opening. We are told to not divulge the number of consoles we have to “prevent customer disappoints”. I would think that not telling customers how many we have would be more disappointing.

My particular store is getting 24 Wiis. Associates are instructed to tell customers that we don’t know when we will get more. Furthermore, employees are allowed to purchase either a PS3 or , as long as they are off the clock and wait in line just like everyone else. However, resale of any console bought by an employee is expressely prohibited.

Here’s what I think is the worst part of it all. Apparently that report that Gamestop/EB would be the only stores with kiosks wasn’t so off the mark. The kiosks that Best Buy is getting will be NON-INTERACTIVE. To me this is just idiotic on the part of . They are gonna show vidoes of their console that is based on using it? has something huge in the , why are they squandering it!! People need to get their hands on this thing!!!

We’ll see if the kiosk info is correct soon enough…. if it is, hopefully there’s a better reason than what everyone on the net has come up with for the lack of playability.

I know that a rep recently visited the Target stores here in Colorado Springs, and insisted that most stores will, indeed, have playable kiosks. Is he right, who knows? We were told only the top 100 Target stores were getting PS3 kiosks, yet we have ours in the back room (hope to have pics tomorrow!)
