I don’t know about you, but I absolutely HATE being wrong. Last time it was the fact that no, it is never appropriate to touch the strippers unless you ask first. This time it is on the subject of ’s hand held the DS.

This might sound weird but I have owned a Sega Nomad, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and absolutely hated hand helds. I thought they were neat time wasters on a long trip where theres nothing to do, but to actually justify paying almost the same cost as a console game was just utter blasphemy in my mind. I got most of the aforementioned as gifts, and played a couple of games here and there.

God spited my city and the power went out due to a freak ice storm for about a week or so. After day 3 I was ready to tear my eyes out, so I ventured to my local EB to pick up some hand held gaming goodness in the form of the DS. I didn’t balk at the price of games because this was to be my only form of entertainment for who knows how long. Wisely I picked up The New Super Mario Brothers. I popped it in expecting a nice little “quickie” in terms of a game and was immediately sucked in. This is what I was waiting for. I payed nearly 40 dollars for this game and it delivered. I felt like I was playing a console game and spent a couple of hours playing my first time around.

It just seemed that every single gripe I had about hand held gaming was answered by some magical gnome. I loved the experience so much, I went out and bought an unprecedented SECOND game for my new love Viewtiful Joe. Although im not as enamored with this game as much as I was with Mario, I’ve learned my lesson. Im actually gonna give these things a chance from now on. I haven’t even TOUCHED an RPG yet, and that’s pretty much the bread and butter of my console experience.

The stylus, while I found it awkward at first, it got easier to use after the first hour or so. Although in VJ I found it completely unnecessary sometimes and even got frustrated how much they used it, but thats completely another story. I think it has the potential to be awesome in some of those quirky games they have coming out soon. I thought it would be a novelty but it really does help in certain cases with the game play. I’m just worried that some developers will make games JUST to use the touch screen and instead of an awesome game, you’re stuck with the chore of always dicking around with their magic-pen. Again, like the Satan-in-a-box that is VJ.

So ….baby….im sorry. I didn’t mean to say all those hurtful things in the past, you know how crazy I get when im on the sauce. Let’s just get back together, you know, like old times. What do ya say?
